How does climate change affect heat waves?
extreme heat begins earlier and lasts longer
heat waves are longer stronger and more frequent
more people exposed to dangerous heat
boomers experienced 4 heat waves in their lives
current generations will experience 18 in their lives
How do these heat waves affect us?
directly impact our health, especially the most vulnerable
increases the use of air conditioning which
increases chances of black outs
increases warming, if fueled by fossil fuels
maladaptation: increasing the gap between the ac haves and have nots
increases risk of large wildfires which increases air pollution, along with other hazards that come with fires
reduces crop production
exacerbates drought risk and increases risk of water shortages
increases the risk of violence

INNOVATORS
Act
July 25 would have been my mother's 92nd birthday. She passed away at the end of May. Losing one's mother is a defining moment. For me, it means making the rest of my days joyful, deliberate and meaningful. It means, as a mother and a human, living an intentional. kind, clean, thoughtful life of persistence. It means maintaining the hope of a more just, healthier planet in the future. It means not letting the naysayers and doubters bring me down. It means less stuff and more spending time sharing stories and community. Not always easy, always worth it.
